Dont'a Hightower, Marcus Cannon officially active vs Panthers

John Tlumacki / The Boston Globe

The Patriots announced that linebacker Dont'a Hightower and right tackle Marcus Cannon have been officially activated for today's game against the Carolina Panthers. After initially going down with a knee injury in Week 1, Hightower was quickly ruled out for Week 2, returned to practice last week, and was scratched the day of last week's game versus the Texans. Cannon, on the other hand, missed last week's game with a concussion and returned to practice this week without fanfare.

The two were both revealed to be active when the Patriots' official twitter account tweeted out the list of gameday inactives:

Hopefully their return can balance out New England's game on both sides of the ball. The defense gave up 33 points last week and was largely ineffective throughout the game, while Cannon's O-line surrendered five sacks to the Texans and almost cost New England the contest with a pair of sack-fumbles (one recovered by center David Andrews, one returned for a TD by Jadeveon Clowney).
