49ers GM John Lynch asked Patriots to trade Tom Brady before finalizing Jimmy G deal

When 49ers GM John Lynch first called the Patriots to ask about trading for Jimmy Garoppolo at the trade deadline, he was thoroughly rebuffed. Undeterred, he quickly called back with another question: "If Garoppolo is off limits, what about Brady?"

On Fox Sports' Sunday NFL Preview show, analyst Jay Glazer reported that Lynch tried to acquire Brady after being initially told that Jimmy Garoppolo was off the block. Obviously, Bill Belichick laughed at the suggestion. But as a ploy to re-open negotiations, it looks like Lynch's call worked: San Francisco ended up getting Garoppolo for just a second-round pick after many insiders pegged Belichick's price for the QB at multiple first-rounders during the offseason.
