Patriots wideout Malcolm Mitchell returned to practice on Wednesday for the first time since September 21. Mitchell was placed on injured reserve with knee problems, but his appearance at practice means he will be the Patriots' second player to return from IR this season.

Mitchell, who last year became the first rookie to catch a pass from Tom Brady in the Super Bowl, can add a spark to a depleted Patriots receiving corps upon his return to game action. With him and Kenny Britt in the fold, New England should be better equipped to handle the possibility of Chris Hogan missing playoff time.

In the short term, the Pats still have 21 days to officially activate Mitchell from IR and clear space for him on the 53-man roster. Mitchell will be the last Patriots player to return from IR this season.
