Patriots can't execute comeback, fall to Dolphins 27-20
The Patriots lost a crusher on Monday Night Football to the Miami Dolphins, 27-20. Tom Brady finished with 233 yards, one touchdown, and a pair of interceptions, while Dion Lewis paced New England on the ground with just 17 yards.
The big story of this game was the Pats' inability to stop Kenyan Drake. The running back led Miami as both a rusher and receiver, finishing with 193 total yards. Meanwhile, second-year corner Xavien Howard completely neutralized Brandin Cooks and snagged a pair of interceptions off Brady. While the Pats mounted a late comeback and managed to move the ball to the 1-foot line with just under two minutes left, they had to settle for a field goal and couldn't convert the onside kick.
The loss drops the Pats to 10-3 on the season. They're headed to Pittsburgh next week for a pivotal showdown in the AFC playoff race: with a win, New England will control its own destiny for the #1 seed; a loss would all but eliminate them from contention for the top spot down the stretch.
