Tom Coughlin ranked ahead of Bill Belichick among top coaches

Sporting News:
With three Super Bowl rings, no current coach can match his resume. Belichick has been remarkably consistent, with at least 10 wins in each of the past nine seasons. His place as an all-time great coach is secured.

So why isn’t Belichick in the No. 1 slot? Because he has lost three consecutive games to Coughlin, including two Super Bowls. Lifetime, Belichick is 1-5 against Coughlin.

Is Tom Coughlin a better coach than Bill Belichick? How quickly perception turns. Just six months ago there were rumors swirling that Coughlin could be fired in New York, and not for the first time either.

The ranking is understandable though for one reason. Coughlin just won the Super Bowl - he's fresher in people's minds. However, while Coughlin has won two super bowls (both against Belichick) the Patriots have been to five in the last ten years, and won three of them. Plus, Belichick is also the one who builds the team, and took a defense in the middle of a transition phase to a Super Bowl last year. Let's not even get into regular season records, division championships and playoff appearances.

If you were to stack up resumes, it's obvious that Belichick is the better coach here. However, Coughlin won more recently so he's going to get this nod. Don't be surprised to see some people rank Eli over Brady on lists as well.
