Welker backtracks from "contract talks getting worse" comments

Welker said he regretted describing contract dealings with the team as taking a turn for the worse.

"That was probably a bad choice of words saying they've gotten worse. They've stayed the same," Welker told The Boston Globe. "... I'm franchised for the year and I'm completely happy with that and completely OK with it. I look forward to contributing to the team."

So, now Welker is backtracking from his comments earlier this week. The saga continues. First Welker drops hints that he could potentially hold out, then he says he won't hold out, then he signs his tender, then he says that signing his tender made things worse, now he says "oh, just kidding about that".

I love Welker, but its probably in his best interests to keep this stuff out of the press. Of course, in a slow time for football news, I don't really mind it that much myself.

What are the chances Welker signs a long-term deal with New England before the season? Likely or unlikely?
