Free agents who could help the Patriots
A team can never have too much talent or competition at each position. Bleacher Report recently ran an article highlighting players that could help the Pats. So here are three players available you might not have thought of that "The Hood" may be interested in.
#1: Braylon Edwards
Braylon is the best WR available at this time. He is 29 years of age, and has a few productive years ahead of him. In 2010 he had a DUI and has had other issues, but no one fixes off the field problems like Bill Belichick. The receiving core has improved this offseason, but Braylon could fight Jabar Gaffney for the #3 option.
#2: Darron Thomas (Yes, Darron Thomas)
Thomas, who went undrafted, is as willing to run the ball as he is to pass it. Bill Belichick loves versatile players and Darron is certainly versatile coming out of Chip Kelly's offense at Oregon. Even though the Patriots have Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett to back up Tom Brady, Darron could be a good practice team player that could help the first team prepare for the more versatile quarterbacks they face.
#3: Jim Leonhard
Jim Leonhard isn't considered an elite player, but he is a veteran of the NFL and could show leadership on a team with a young secondary. Probably not a guy who would start, but a guy who is a solid backup, and could fill in at punt returner if anything happened to Julian Edelman.
