Why Wes Welker deserves a deal now

The media around Wes Welker lately has given him somewhat of a bad image. Yes, Wes is under the franchise tag, so he will play this year for $9.5 million, but the Patriots need to offer him sooner than later. Wes wants a 3 year deal, while the Patriots want two.

Contracts in the NFL should be based on what players can do in the future and not in the past. In his time with the Patriots, Wes Welker has amounted for 554 catches for 6,105 yards and 98 touchdowns. And, from the looks of it (122 catches for 1569 yards and 9 touchdowns this past year), Wes has a lot left in the tank.

The Patriots are running out of time to get a deal done before the Monday deadline. Lets just hope they can so we don't have to stress about this next spring.
