Ways Bill Parcells' recent comments sound like those of a Patriots homer

Bill Parcells hasn't been a part of the New England Patriots organization since 1996, but when asked about the state of the Pats on Monday he had some very optimistic comments about the team and his old pal head coach Bill Belichick. Maybe Parcells was just trying to be positive to not ruffle any feathers, but some of the things he said highly resemble what many of us hear from homers in the area completely unable to see any negatives regarding their favorite team. A closer look...

“I told (Belichick) that I thought his team was a better team this year than it was last year, and I really believe that. I really think that. I know they went to the Super Bowl last year, but I believe they’re better now than they were in 2011.

Homerism: "I know they were a play or two away from a Superbowl victory last season and a play or two away from losing to the Buffalo Bills Sunday, but I swear this year's team is better."

"You see things differently from a coaching perspective, and I think people need to realize that."

Homerism: "You may not agree with me but that's because you don't know the team or the game as well as I do." A homer would also probably add here that he/she watches every game.

“I think you can talk about the pass defense, but at the same time, you need to also talk about the pass rush,” Parcells said. “I know Bill addressed that this past season with the addition of a few guys like Chandler Jones, but I think they could use another guy coming off that edge. They could use another pressure player off the corner.”

Way to avoid talking about the struggles of the secondary. "Sure, they've been one of the worst pass defenses in the league but it's not all the fault of the secondary. Pass rushing is a factor here too. And golly, how about that Chandler Jones. The Pats could use more guys like him!"

“Bill knows what the problems are, and he’s better than just about anyone when it comes to identifying the problems and going about trying to fix it and adjust it,” Parcells said. “With the wide-open offenses, the problems with pass defense are everywhere. It’s just a matter of making the adjustments and seeing who can play best late in the season, and I’m confident that Bill will have them headed in the right direction.”

"In Bill we trust."
