Sebastian Vollmer, Julian Edelman active
There was some talk that Sebastian Vollmer might not play based on how he was acting in pre-game warmups. He apparently took his helmet off in frustration and then walked off with offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia and the team's trainer.
Worry no more though, Vollmer is active. And so is Julian Edelman.
Sebastian Vollmer will definitely be needed in a matchup against Cameron Wake, whose 9.5 sacks are good for 6th best in the NFL. Marcus Cannon filled in great against the Jets, but his shaky preseason still has me a little worrisome when he steps in. It bears watching who gets the most playing time on the right side of that line.
Julian Edelman practiced all week after sustaining a concussion in the win over the Jets. His active status does not come as a surprise.
As for notable inactives, Visanthe Shiancoe jumps out. With the Patriots not having Rob Gronkowski active, you would think they would need all the hands they can get. The fact that Michael Hoomanawanui may have passed him on the depth chart is a little surprising. So far, Shiancoe has been a disappointment though he didn't exactly enter the team with the grandest of expectations.
James Develin, the fullback who was just promoted off the practice squad, is also inactive which makes you wonder why the team even bothered promoting him. Feel bad for him a little because the quotes he gave to the media made it seem like he was so excited to finally play. Maybe next week.

Patriots inactives: Gronk, Mankins, Jones, Shiancoe, Petrus, Develin, Martin. That means Vollmer goes today, as does Edelman.
