Patriots offensive line second best in NFL
In a profootballfocus.com article the top offensive lines were ranked, and the Patriot's big boys were up near the top.
The line was kind of a revolving door because there were people in and out of the lineup every week it seemed. This is a really great honor for this football team because it shows how prepared role players are. The offensive line is the heart and soul of the team and if you plan on having a succesful season, they can't miss a beat when someone goes down.
Things did not look great for the o-line heading into the season. Dan Koppen took off for Denver, Matt Light retired, and Brian Waters wasn't decisive on his decision to return. Center Ryan Wendell played a huge role and it is really suprising how well he played considering he had never started in the NFL before.
The article that ranked the lines mentioned a stud and a dud from every team. The stud for the Patriots line was right tackle Sebastian Vollmer. He had a nagging injury the majority of the season that may have slowed him down, but he only missed one game and was a sure thing in the other 15. The dud mentioned was guard, Dan Connolly. This doesnt mean he had a bad season, when a dud needed to be chosen, Connolly was the one who was the least stellar.
The offensive line is a great thing to build your team around and I hope it can remain solid next season. A big key to next years success as a line is the resigning of Sebastian Vollmer. He is 28 and in his prime and is a must-keep player for next season.
