Nnamdi Asomugha released in Philadelphia

The Eagles once made a Miami Heat-like splash in the NFL when they traded for Dominuque Rodgers-Cromartie and signed Nnamdi Asomugha. Those two combined with Asante Samuel were supposed to give the Eagles one of the best secondaries in NFL history. However, they didn't even have a mediocre secondary for that season.

Asante Samuel was traded last year. Rodgers-Cromartie will be gone from Philly, and now so will Nnamdi Asomugha.

Of course, the question is, should the Patriots go after Asomugha? There are certainly concerns seeing as how his play dropped dramatically since moving from Oakland to Philadelphia. However, much criticism has been put on then head coach Andy Reid for not using Nnamdi, or really many of his pieces properly. Reid was fired this year after two straight seasons of some pretty bad locker rooms.

Nnamdi would come relatively inexpensive, and has obviously shown the capacity to be a top talent in the league at his position. According to Greg Bedard of the Globe this morning, it is absolutely possible for the Patriots to sign both Aqib Talib and Nnamdi Asomugha. Think about that duo for a second. Belichick is a coach that is best at letting players play to their strengths, something Nnamdi wasn't allowed to really do in Philly. He'll also come at a bargain price.

This could be the big secondary signing we're hoping for.
