Mathieu Could Fall in the Patriots Lap

According to a CBS Sports report, Tyrann Mathieu has failed up to ten drug tests in his career at LSU. Apparently he told teams at the NFL Combine that he has been drug free since October, but does that matter to the stiffs in the NFL. For all of you that want the Patriots to pick up Tyrann Mathieu, this is great news.

Belichick is not, and has never been, turned off by a players drug use in college and I commend it. These teams look down on players that like the ganja and so a very talented, potential first-rounder can fall right into your lap in the second round or late first round. Skeptical? Aaron Hernandez was a player that was thought to be one of the better prospects at tight end coming out of the draft, but failed a drug test in college and slipped to the Patriots at a value pick.

This has worked in the past and it has worked for our head coach. If you are one of the many fans who were screaming for Mathieu then you should be skipping for joy. The particular drug used was not released, but Mathieu admitted to failing ten drug tests before being suspended. What does that tell you? It tells me that it wasn’t a hardcore drug, but probably something like a little grass. I see a best friend for Hernandez in the locker room. Maybe Mathieu and Hernandez can eat Cheetos and play Madden 2013 while blazin’ up after the game.

All joking aside, this doesn’t always work obviously, which is the reason it turns teams off and it could potentially signal a lack of maturity in scouts minds. I don’t necessarily believe that and I know Belichick doesn’t. What do you think, should the Patriots take a gamble on Mathieu?
