Patriots submit Offer Sheet to WR Emmanuel Sanders

Actual big news coming from the New England Patriots today!

The deadline was the 19th of April, but the Patriots have made their move earlier than expected. The Pittsburgh Steelers have five days to make an offer to beat the Patriots now.

The offer is a 1 year, $2.5mil contract, and the concession of a 3rd round pick to the Steelers.

This is a major move by the Patriots. The Steelers are really struggling with cap space, and the Patriots are taking advantage of this. And it would be a great move too - why take a chance on drafting a guy, when you can spend a 3rd round pick on Sanders, a proven NFL receiver, who had 44 receptions for 626 yards and a TD last season. Not bad for a 3rd choice guy behind Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown. Now he'll become a more prominent part of an offense led by Tom Brady. Given his chance, he can be an exciting receiver opposite Danny Amendola.

This move, despite using up a 3rd round pick, will also free up the Patriots to improve their defense in the draft. The defense is definitely worse off than the offense, even with Rob Gronkowski hurt and no Wes Welker. Now we can go after a DE and some secondary help early, and not worry about a WR until later.

So, a pretty great move by Bill Belichick and co. Good job guys!

Now it's your move, Pittsburgh.
