Patriots release WR Donald Jones

Today the team cut ties with Jones, who they signed on March 15th after he had a career-year last season in Buffalo. That career year entailed 41 receptions for 443 yards and 4 touchdowns, so his numbers weren't exactly eye-popping.

But Jones had been pegged as a potential contributor to this year's offense, and was a member of a rag-tag receiving cast heading into the preseason. With Jones' departure, that key group is now made up of veterans Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman, and Michael Jenkins, along with rookies Aaron Dobson, Josh Boyce, and Kenbrell Thompkins. The team signed Thompkins in March after he went undrafted out of Cincinatti, but he impressed in OTAs, which is part of what made Jones dispensable.

So that ends Donald Jones time in New England. And for the fans, his best Patriots-related memory will remain that time big Vince absolutely laid him out in Buffalo:
