Fantasy Fix: Quarterback Stock Watch

Every year in Fantasy Football, once preseason games start, there are players whose stocks begin to rise and those that begin to fall.

Sometimes an exciting rookie makes some noise in August (remember Bam Childress?), the hype begins and his stock goes up. Other times, a veteran player struggles or is coming off an injury (Peyton Manning anyone?), there's whispers of declining performance and his stock begins to fall.

Try not to buy into the hype or the hate when it comes to preseason football.

With that being said, let's run down some quarterbacks whose stock is either rising or falling in 2013 Fantasy Football.

Riser: Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins: Tannehill completed 10-of-15 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown in Saturday night's game against the Texans. Tannehill has a new weapon, wide receiver Mike Wallace, to go along with fantasy sleeper Brian Hartline. The loss of tight end Dustin Keller for the season will hurt, but Tannehill is one to watch this season. With a quarter of his games coming against the Bills and Jets chances are he'll look like Dan Marino against them - minus the permed mullet.

Riser: Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles: Vick is fighting for the starting job in new head coach Chip Kelly's up-tempo offense and it looks like he's on his way to winning it. Vick was sharp in the preseason opener last week going 4-5 with 97 yards and a touchdown. If he can keep himself on the field this year, he could be a steal in the late rounds. It was only two season's ago that Vick threw for over 3000 yards and 21 touchdowns while rushing for almost 700 yards with six TD's. Just keep him away from Fido.

Faller: Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers: Kaepernick has the arm, has the legs, plays on last years Super Bowl runner-ups and sports cool ink. What's not to love, right? Check the numbers. Kaepernick averaged 17 completions in 27 attempts for 1.43 touchdowns per game in just seven starts last season. Those are mediocre fantasy numbers for a player being taken in the third or fourth round. Unless Jerry Rice, John Taylor and Dwight Clark find the fountain of youth, I'm staying clear of Col-Kap.

Faller: Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks: Seems like we're picking on those read/run quarterbacks, but the fact is, Cam Newton aside, the top QB's that deliver fantasy points spend more time throwing the ball than tucking and running. Wilson was last in the NFL among 16-game starters in passing attempts last season. I'm more likely to grab Mathew Stafford, Andrew Luck or Tony Romo, three players that are being taken after Wilson in most leagues. To paraphrase Pete Carroll, I'm not jacked or psyched to draft Wilson this year.
