The Good, The Bad and the Tebow

Tebow came in to stat the second half. He was promptly sacked four times in just two series.

Great start!

He also had plenty of his trademark overthrows, ugly throws and non-throws. It seemed like Tebow was heading straight to the waiver wire. And then the good part happened.

Tebow threw a dart to receiver Quentin Sims, who he'd had a lot of work with in practice. Sims took the pass for a 52 yard catch and run and a touchdown to give the Patriots a one point lead. This just a few plays after another brilliant throw to Sims to pick up a first down.

Of course, in typical Tebow fashion, he later threw one to the other team on a deep ball intended for Aaron Dobson. Of course, that was also the third throw of the day intended for Dobson to be intercepted (one didn't count as Giants' Amukamara landed out of bounds).

He did make up for it with a very nice throw to Quentin Sims again in garbage time for another touchdown.

Tebow had a lot to prove in this game. His spot on the roster is very much up in the air. If he did well, it's assumed he would likely be a lock to make the roster. If he didn't, then he'd probably be out an NFL career.

Of course, what no one really prepared for was for Tebow to do neither. Sure, Tebow looked his usual awful self at times, however, he also had a lot of nice plays - especially on third down.

He probably played good enough to deserve the spot he's fighting for, the third string quarterback spot. You don't exactly have to be a world beater to be that guy. It usually is pretty risky to only go with two quarterbacks, but it's something the Patriots have been able to do before - like last season.

Tebow could be able to help the Patriots prepare for some of the teams they'll face this season with running quarterbacks - like Buffalo or Carolina.

The question is, has he proven himself worthy of a roster spot? If Tebow stays, some players like Adrian Wilson, Leon Washington, Jake Bequette, Jake Ballard or others that are seen to be on the bubble could have to go.

If it's my call, I would probably part ways with Tebow. The third string quarterback hasn't proved to be as valuable of a position as having depth in some other areas. Also, I highly doubt that Tebow is going to be claimed by another team if waived. If something did end up happening to Tom Brady, they could always sign him off the street.

A lot of players tonight that saw significant time could be on their way out on Saturday. Tebow's performance didn't make it completely obvious if he should be one of them.
