Four Patriots, Two Jets Players Fined for Sideline Scrum; Mangold Off the Hook

The Patriots solidified their win over the Jets last Thursday when Aqib Talib intercepted his second pass of the day. That play ended with an illegal hit by Nick Mangold that infuriated the New England sideline so much that a fight broke out between the two teams. Punches were thrown, and thus, fines were given. The details on the New England fines are here:

Chandler Jones fine is a product of his helmet to helmet clash with Geno Smith when Geno stepped up to deliver a rather impressive pass. However, Jones made Smith look like a bobblehead doll, so many Pats fans saw the end result as an okay trade-off.

The Jets fines are as follows:

Those looking at this tweet may be wondering where Nick Mangold's fine is... Well, there is none. Although Talib told ESPN that he did not see Mangold's hit as dirty - the refs, the Patriots sideline, and Bill Belichick all saw differently. Not only was the play dead because Talib had stepped out of bounds, but Mangold also went directly for his knees (something that will absolutely become illegal in the next couple of years with all of the knee injuries coming from these hits). If Talib was Rob Gronkowski and Nick Mangold was Danny Woodhead, I would understand him trying to make the tackle by going low, but when it is pretty much the other way around in terms of size, going low seems to be a very good indicator that he not merely trying to make a tackle. The NFL made a huge error in not fining Nick Mangold. After all, the only reason the players they fined committed the penalties that they did was because of Nick Mangold's hit.
