Vince Wilfork has torn Achilles, likely done for season

The Patriots may have won the battle Sunday night, but the war was costly. According to the Boston Globe, defensive tackle Vince Wilfork suffered a torn right Achilles tendon and is likely out for the rest of the season.

The 10-year veteran left Sunday night's 30-23 win against the Atlanta Falcons with an ankle injury in the first quarter. He limped off the field and was taken to the Patriot locker room on the back of a cart.

ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss reported that head coach Bill Belichick was seen speaking with Wilfork's wife after the game.

The Patriots have not commented yet on the extent of Wilfork's injury, but it appears he will be placed on season-ending injured reserve.

The Patriots have just three defensive tackles on the roster - veteran Tommy Kelly and rookies Joe Vellano and Chris Jones.

The Patriots may look to make a deal before the Oct. 29 trade deadline or they may call old friend and current free agent Richard Seymour.
