Ed Reed says Patriots contacted him, but he chose the Jets because of Rex
There was speculation that the Patriots could be interested in the star saftey, but never were there reports that they were. Until now courtesy Reed himself.

After signing with the Jets on Thursday, veteran safety Ed Reed was asked by reporters if the Patriots had also contacted him. He said yes, while adding that a player from a third team also texted him after he was waived Tuesday by the Texans.
The third team has since been confirmed as the Dolphins. So, why did Reed chose the team thats routinely the joke of the division over the one thats on top of it? He didn't want to have to learn a new scheme.

And so his familiarity with Rex Ryan from the Baltimore days wins out in the end. I was never entirely in favor of signing Reed in the first place, but he'll add even more intrigue to a surprisingly good Jets team in the latter half of the season.
