Welker has Concussion, Status for Foxborough Return in Doubt

Who would have thought that it would be Wes Welker and not Danny Amendola who would be in danger of missing the Patriots-Broncos showdown? (And yes, I frantically knocked on wood while I typed that).

Welker's Broncos gave the Chiefs their first loss last night, but the diminutive slot receiver left the game after getting sandwiched on a nasty-looking hit in the fourth quarter. Welker actually would return to the game and record another catch before leaving to undergo concussion tests.

Now that it has been confirmed as a concussion, the question becomes whether Welker will be available for next weeks highly anticipating return to New England. No concussed player can return to the field until they are symptom-free and cleared by an independent neurologist.

The Patriots will host the Peyton Manning and the Broncos on Sunday Night Football next week. Before that, they have tonight's date in Carolina with the Panthers to worry about.
