Andre Carter on his second stint with Patriots

When Andre Carter first came to the Patriots a few years ago, he was not much more than a tag-along to go hand-in-hand with the acquisition of Albert Haynesworth. When Haynesworth flopped, Carter was the one to shine. In 2011, Carter earned his only career Pro Bowl honor as he led the Patriots in sacks during the regular season, even though he fell to a season ending injury with a few games left. His prowess was definitely missed during that playoff run.

This second time around, Carter is more of a role player than a play maker. His veteran presence is especially valued since defensive captains Jerod Mayo and Vince Wilfork fell to injury. Even though he started the season without a team to play for, Carter kept himself in shape in case anybody called. When it was the Patriots, you can imagine he was eager to get back to Foxboro:
“Like I’ve told everybody, this is just as special organization to play for,” he said. “It’s not so much the level of accomplishment that I had in 2011, but the level of camaraderie here, the town, the state, the organization. When you play for the Patriots, you hold your head up high.”

And so Carter has a special role in a defense that started the season strong but has been riddled with injuries since. His presence alone is a rock foundation for a young defensive unit and everybody knows he is always capable of making a huge play.  When asked about his future not only with the Patriots but in the NFL, Carter simply stated that he tries to "live in the moment". The 34-year-old is definitely valuing his time with this organization and the league while chasing Super Bowl aspirations.
