Brady: "No one feels sorry for the Patriots"

Brady was a grinning buffoon when he took the podium last night after yet another dramatic win, this time against the Cleveland Browns.

That was awesome. What a game. I’m just proud of the guys. We fought through a lot of adversity. A lot of mental toughness. We grinded it out, so it was pretty sweet.

Sadly last nights win wasn’t all fun and games. The big story of the game is Rob Gronkowski’s torn ACL and MCL, which will put him on IR and out for the remainder of the season. With already four star players on IR (DT Vince Wilfork, DT Tommy Kelly, LB Jerod Mayo, RT Sebastian Vollmer), the Patriots have taken more blows than most NFL teams this season, but Brady isn’t going to make excuses.
I always say no one feels sorry for the Patriots. I think we all feel sorry for Rob [Gronkowski], but I don’t think anyone feels sorry for the Patriots.

Tom, truer words have never been spoken.

I don’t know what it is about the Patriots, their success, their Hall of Fame Quarterback and coach, Gisele, but everyone loves to hate the Patriots and it blows my mind.

The controversial pass interference penalty is a perfect example of this strange phenomenon. By now we all know the play: with 30 seconds to go in the game, Brady threw up a bomb to Josh Boyce who was held by rookie corner Leon McFadden in the end zone. The refs threw the flag and it resulted in the Patriots getting the ball at the 1 yard line and they punched it in for the go ahead touchdown. I understand that the call wasn’t an obvious PI call. If the flag had not been thrown I, as a fan watching from my couch, would not have jumped to the notion that that was PI and the refs blew the call. It was a little pushing and shoving and it got called. What blows my mind is that people think that the refs gifted wrapped the game and handed the Patriots the win.

Here is what Frank Schwab of Yahoo Sports had to say about the call:
For some reason, the officials at the end of the Browns-Patriots game decided to give New England the win…The officials have to understand that call determines the game… The officals decided the Patriots deserved a break. So there was a phantom call to gift wrap a touchdown and a win.

To this I have but one question for you Mr. Schwab: Do you honestly believe that Tom Brady would not have scored with the ball at the 30 yard line and 30 seconds left?

Ok, I have another question. Do you really think that the greatest come from behind Quarterback in NFL history had zero chance of scoring from 30 yards out?

I’m not saying that it was 100 percent certain that they would have scored (it wasn’t 100 percent certain they would have scored from the 1), but you seem to think that the game was all but over, then the refs intervened and gave the Patriots the win. Take away that penalty. I don’t want it. I will bet you every penny I own that give Brady 30 seconds and 30 yards from the end zone, he will score.

Where was this with the Panthers PI no-call? Sounded like everyone thought that was a fine call. They had no problem seeing that controversial end because hey, the Patriots lost.

Even the commentators last night seemed to be going against the Patriots. It just blows my mind that as a professional commentator, you start talking about how the Patriots get over this loss with a minute left and Brady has the ball. Has no one learned anything? These are the moments Brady lives for. He thrives under the pressure and he produces.

Fuck them. (My apologizes about the language but there is no better way to put it.)

Tom, you are right, no one will feel sorry for the Patriots. I don’t want them to. I want everyone to see what happens when you doubt the Patriots for a second. And the best way to do that is end the season with that trophy in your hand.

Also, for anyone who hates the Patriots, I have a challenge for you. Take your favorite team, remove their all star defensive tackle and anchor, their team leader and defensive play making linebacker, their pro bowl right tackle, and their best receiving weapon and you tell me if you can be sitting at 10-3 with the second seed in your conference. I think not.
