Colts lose starting corner Greg Toler; will likely start former Patriot Darius Butler

While the Colts signing of Deion Branch might be a bitter pill to swallow for Patriots fans, it's a move that comes due to some bad injury news for Indianapolis.

Greg Toler, a cornerback who started the Colts first 7 games before suffering a groin injury that hampered him the rest of the year, has been put on injured reserve, ending his season. The Colts were hopeful that Toler would be able to come back and aid their postseason run, but he re-aggravated the injury in the Colts wild card win over the Chiefs.

Toler was clearly limited by his injury during the snaps he did play against Kansas City. He got burned badly by Donnie Avery for a 79 yard touchdown before eventually leaving the field.

The transaction will likely push former Patriot Darius Butler into the starting lineup. Butler, a second round pick of the Patriots in 2009, was cut after two poor years in New England and seemed well on his way out of football after the Panthers cut him one year later. However, the UConn product has resurrected his career in Indianapolis as a productive slot cornerback.

Look for Tom Brady to put Butler and his likely replacement in the slot, Cassius Vaughn, to the test on Saturday.
