Is it time to start hating Wes Welker?

He left us for our rivals. He made snide comments about us. And now he destroyed our dreams of a Super Bowl. So, is it time to hate Wes Welker? Of course it is!

I loved Welker when he was in a Patriots uniform and do appreciate and respect him for his Patriots years and what he did for this franchise. But my dislike for Wes has been slowly brewing over recent years. It all started with the Super Bowl drop. I’ve watched that play over and over again and I agree that it was a poor throw by Brady. We’ve started to see it now, Brady has started to lose a step in his passing game. But still, we had seen Wes make that catch a fair number of times during the regular season, yet when it came to crunch time, he dropped the ball (man that pun worked on so many different levels).
Wes has given into the dark side and become Darth Welker
The seed of doubt was planted in my mind that day: maybe this Wes guy isn’t all that. Maybe he’s starting to get old. Maybe it’s time to move on.

The next season only went on to prove my seed of doubt, which by this time had grown into a young sapling. Then came last year’s Championship game. Again Wes, Mr. Dependable, had a crucial drop against the Ravens. He had already taken a few too many hits and with the Patriots killer bearing down on him, he was unable to handle the football for a first down. Ravens went on to win the Super Bowl.

So when it came to the offseason and there were rumors of Wes leaving, I wasn’t surprised. My doubt tree (now standing a towering 30 feet) had taken over my love for him. He made too many mistakes in clutch moments and it was time to move on. Then all the drama came out around contracts and value and Wes ditched for not much more to join the Peyton Mannings. Suddenly Wes found himself a voice and was quite chatty about his time in New England, he seemed to love the freedom to speak his mind.

Tensions were already high between Wes and the Patriots before this years AFC Championship game. It was here that Wes gave into the dark side and will forever be Darth Welker to me: a robot of the man he once was, a heartless machine questing for the destruction of his old master. In his biggest contribution to the game, Darth Welker took out Aqib Talib on an extremely questionable pick route. With Talib out of the game, Demaryius Thomas took over and the rest is history. Now Darth Welker, along with Emperor Peyton are marching their army to the Super Bowl while the Patriots have to sit and watch. Thank god Bill spoke his mind and shared what we were all thinking.

I still love Wes, the hard working slot receiver that came out of nowhere to become one of the greatest slot players ever. But through his turbulent exit and his dedication to the dark side, Wes changed, and I will hate Darth Welker it'll the end of my days.
