The real reason why Brandon Spikes was put on IR, wasn't all because of injury

Brandon Spikes made headlines early this week.

Not for good reasons either. The Patriots linebacker had played in all 16 games in 2013 for the first time in his career. Unfortunately however, he had been doing half of it on a knee that required surgery.

He was shaken up in the team's finale against Buffalo, and was then moved to season ending IR on Monday.

The knee and IR were seen to be related and while the move was met with heavy hearts, it wasn't questioned.

Until now.

NESN.com further elaborates that Spikes was in danger of actually being released for the incident.

Of course, it was snow that likely kept Spikes from getting to the meeting on time. As NESN points out, these were some of Spikes' tweets from the day.

If it's true that this was Bill Belichick's motivation, it's hard not to say that it's extremely harsh.

Spikes suffers the wrath of players before him like Randy Moss, Adalius Thomas and more who were sent home for being late to a meeting in 2009.

A free-agent after this year, it's getting more and more difficult to see Spikes returning in a Patriots uniform. As sad as I am to say that.
