Welker on Brady and Manning: like Picasso and Michelangelo

You could argue who is better, Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. To be fair, both arguments do have their share of backup and reasoning. Wide receiver Wes Welker now has a unique perspective on the debate at hand. After spending a handful of seasons and reaching impressive success in New England with Brady, Welker was a prized free agent that decided to take his talents to Denver and play with Manning.

Though he was riddled with injuries throughout the season, Welker was a part of the greatest statistical offense of all time this year with Manning. Before that though, Welker was on the previous greatest statistical offense of all time in the '07 Patriots with Brady. Whether Welker ever had a preference to either quarterback, he never openly said so. In fact, here is his reaction when he was asked to compare the two quarterbacks:

“It’s like comparing Picasso and Michelangelo,” he said. “It’s hard to compare the two.” “There aren’t too many differences,” Welker said. “They are great quarterbacks. They do a great job of keeping guys accountable, and their leadership skills and everything else. They are two guys you want quarterbacking your team. It’s a toss-up between those two.”

Brady and Manning have been the faces of an evolution in football throughout the 2000's. When these two players started their careers, offenses were more balanced as opposed to now when the air attack through the passing game is more valuable than ever. Breaking records, setting new ones, then breaking more is what these two players do. Brady and Manning are without a doubt the most consistent and valuable players to both their teams and the league. I would say Welker's 'Picasso and Michelangelo' is very accurate.
