5 possible cap casualties the Patriots should sign on defense

With every offseason there comes a wave of cap casualties, players who are cut in order to save the team money. Over the Cap put out a list of all the players they think are possible cap casualties and after hours and hours of vigorous studying and research, I have found five players on defense who, if released by their team, could be players the Patriots look to sign (ranked from best to worst).

1. Paul Posluszny - Linebacker

If the Patriots don't resign Brandon Spikes (which I don't think they do) Posluszny would be a great replacement at middle linebacker. Pos is a veteran of the league and a constant rock at linebacker. He ended this season with 161 tackles, 3 sacks and 2 interceptions. He has been a bright spot on an otherwise horrible Jaguars team and would bring leadership and experience to the Patriots linebacking core.

2. Antrel Rolle - Safety

The Giants are looking to rebuild and Rolle is a costly veteran to keep around. Rolle could be what Adrian Wilson was suppose to be: a big, hard hitting safety that would pair extremely well with McCourty. Rolle ended the 13 season with 98 tackles, 2 sacks and 6 interceptions. He could be a cheaper option to T.J. Ward.

3. Julius Peppers - Defensive End

Obviously we all know what Peppers would bring to the Pats: pass rush. Even at 34 years old, Peppers racked up 7.5 sacks and could be a great veteran to bring in, similar to what the Patriots were trying to do with Andre Carter. Peppers would be a get situational rusher and could help ease the pressure off of Chandler Jones and Rob Ninkovich.

4. DeMeco Ryans - Linebacker

Again, looking to possibly replace Spikes. Ryans was a playmaker in Houston, but hasn't quite had the impact the Eagles were looking for when they traded for him two years ago. Still, Ryans has been productive, ending up with 127 tackles this season.

5. Brodrick Bunkley - Defensive Lineman

Bunkley is an effective backup lineman and if we learned anything from last season, depth is key on our d line. While Bunkley stats don't jump off the page, he is a solid player and a big body that could help fill in if anyone goes down on the line.

What players on the list would you like to see the Patriots go after (if they're released of course).
