Patriots owner Robert Kraft told the Boston Herald that he believes the Patriots locker room would be supportive of having an openly gay player on their team. While the Herald reports that a number of NFL scouts believe that the NFL is not ready, the Patriots reaction to the news suggests otherwise. Here's what Kraft had to say on the matter, according to the Herald:

“If a player were gay and came into this locker room, it would be the most supportive system,” Kraft told Buckley. “He’d gain strength by being in here. And it wouldn’t be divisive and he’d make friends for life and they could help him win. I really believe that.”

The NFL Network's Ian Rappaport also tweeted out that Bill Belichick said that the Patriots would evaluate any potential draft picks on their ability and what they can contribute to the team.

Personally, I wouldn't mind having Michael Sam on the team. He was Defensive Player of the Year in a conference (the SEC) that prides itself on defense. If Sam fits into the system, he could help the Patriots immensely.
