Talib re-signing with Pats? . . .not so fast

It is pretty much set in stone that the injury handed to Talib during the AFC Championship was one of the final nails in the coffin for the Pats. But it is not just that injury that is keeping Talib in the dark when it comes to a contract. NFL.com reports that Bob Kraft is reluctant to give Talib a large contract because he is injury prone.

The Patriots got Talib on a one year, $5 million dollar contact. But that kind of deal will NOT keep Talib in New England next year. But Kraft is worried about giving a spot (a high paying spot at that) to an injury prone player like Talib. He made that very evident last Friday on WBZ radio.

"Well we want to retain all the good players we can retain, It's not like we have unlimited funding so ... He wasn't on the field a lot of the time since he's been with us. It's a balance of us balancing all that out and what is he worth,I think he's happy here and would like to be here and we're happy with him and we'd like to have him here and now it's just about doing business."

Word on NFL.com is that Talib may look in the 7-8 million per year range, in which case the Patriots would probably let him test the open market. But in all honesty here, the Patriots had more injuries this year than I can ever remember in a single year. So it isn't like Talib was any different than anyone else. Granted he is injury prone, but he made it farther into the season then Gronk and Wilfork... Not to match their injuries, just making a point.

What are your thoughts? Sign Talib or let him fly?
