Ravens standing by Ray Rice

Ray Rice has found himself in some hot water this off-season after a video surfaced of him dragging his fiancee, who he allegedly knocked unconscious, out of an elevator and into the hallway of a casino. Rice was indicted on these charges yesterday, and faces a third-degree aggravated assault charge.

Despite this, the Ravens organization is standing by the running back, yesterday tweeting their support for him as he goes through this ordeal, which the team stated is part of the "due process."

This comes after owner Steve Bisciotti publically expressed his support for Rice during an interview Monday:

“He’ll be back with the team. He’ll definitely be back,” Bisciotti said. “I know how terribly disappointing it is to Ray and his fiancĂ©e, how embarrassing it is for them. I have to have compassion towards him.”

The original incident occured on February 15th, when police were summoned to Revel Casino in Atlantic City in response to a report of domestic violence. The police report stated that after reviewing surveillance tapes, both parties were involved in the altercation. Shortly after the arrest, TMZ released footage of Rice dragging his fiancee out of the elevator after reportedly rendering her unconscious.

It will be interesting to see if the Ravens stand behind Rice if he is found guilty on these charges, which carry a potential 3-5 year jail sentence. Obviously, it is not the first time they have been down this road, having dealt with a murder charge against their star player Ray Lewis.

Rice saw a marked decline in his performance last season, rushing for just 660 yards and 4 touchdowns, significant dips from his production in previous years. As of now, it appears the Ravens have every intention of Rice being a part of the offense for the upcoming season.
