Caserio says Patriots looking "Short Term" in Brady replacement.

Granted, Johnny Manziel is guaranteed to be a no go on draft day, as he will be claimed by someone before the Patriots 29th pick. But what about a Brady replacement? Nick Caserio answered that during this mornings press conference with WEEI.

“I think right now our focus is on the draft and trying to improve our team,” Caserio said. “We’ll go through the offseason program, once we have the players that are here. Look, we’re focused on the short term. We’ve just started on the offseason program. We’ll see our players, where they are physically once we get on the field, once we start practicing. Right now, I think our focus is on the draft and just trying to improve our football team.”

Now before you start hyperventilating that Brady is on his way out, hear what Caserio had to say after that. He talked about how Belichick and him were looking into the best fit for the Patriots system.

“You never want to pass up a player. If they’re equal value, maybe you go to a different position but if there’s a good football player and he’s head-and-shoulders above the rest, then internally we just have to make that decision. But you don’t want to pass on a player just because he has a position where there might be numbers, volume or whatever the case may be.”

I do think its a good idea to start looking for someone young. Mallet is a capable backup and could progress to a starter in a few years. But to have someone who can take over that backup role could be key.

But no, Brady isn't going anywhere just yet... so lets take a moment to bring that pulse down.
