Belichick: Patriots not interested in trading Mallett

After the draft, the Patriots could easily say that we had a surplus of quarterbacks. But with the signing of Garoppolo in the second round, it looked like Mallett's days were numbered in New England. But Belichick sited the opposite today.

“Not really something we’re that interested in. Fortunately for our team, maybe unfortunately for Ryan, he hasn’t really had any playing time in the last three years. He’s improved tremendously as a quarterback and as a football player. We have a lot of confidence in him. At the same time, he’s in the last year of a contract.”

Now granted he may not be traded, but after this year I do not believe we see Ryan Mallett anymore. It just isn't feasible. Here is what Belichick had to say to SiriusXM on Jimmy Garoppolo according to masslive.com

“Jimmy was a player we had with a high grade on, at that position I don’t think you can afford to pass up a player that you think has that kind of value. We feel like we have a good quarterback situation. I think there’s a lot of teams in the league that maybe don’t feel good about that position, and that’s not a good position to not feel good about. We feel very good about the players we have at that spot.”

We have all heard people saying that Garoppolo is "No Tom Brady". Yes thats true, but he is a 22 year old quarterback that just graduated college and is now entering the pro's. He will be groomed over the years to mimic Tom Brady and play like he has, and when the time comes he can be a more than adequate replacement for Brady.

What does this mean for Mallett? One thing.... its time to start your goodbyes, your year will end and so will your time in New England.
