Baylor's new stadium topped off with RGIII statue

The Baylor Bears football program continues to rise and stand among some of the greatest in the country (at least right now). With this new standing comes better recruits, new jerseys and even a brand new stadium. With that new stadium and ceremonial step to the future though will come a honorable homage to the program's shining star: Robert Griffin III. The former Bear will be immortalized in Baylor history with a statue outside the new stadium.

RGIII was the marque player that put the Bears on the map during his college career that is only a few years removed now. Though he was just in college what feels like a minute ago, RGIII left a tremendous stamp on the program that has continued to thrive. In 2011, the QB won the Heisman Trophy while leading the team to just its second 10-win season in history. The program is currently continuing the best stretch in it's not-so-lucrative history. RGIII is considered to be one of if not THE most pivotal building blocks.

The statue of RGIII will be unveiled on August 31st, the day of not only the team's home opener against SMU but also the stadium's official opening. Though the statue's plans seem to be set in stone, the pose that the former Bear will be striking has yet to be announced and will likely remain a mystery until its revealing. RGIII reportedly had a photo shoot in April where he once again sported the Baylor jersey, after which he had a hand in choosing his favorites of the pictures. Baylor officials then picked which of those photos to design the statue from.
