On The Bubble: Could this be the year for Brandon Bolden?

Brandon Bolden is a 5' 11" 220 lbs, 24 year old running back that is known as "Hulk Smash". Or at least that's what he calls himself. You would think he was New England's #1 RB with a bright future. However, he's been buried at the bottom of the depth chart for two years now. Now in his third year, he's at risk at not making the 53 man roster. Especially if you consider the potential of rookie running back James White who was drafted out of Wisconsin.

A few things to consider
  • Brandon might be the best overall running back on the team. If you consider a mixture of strength, speed and hands.
  • He has a nose for big plays and yards after the catch (YAC) 7.8 per reception
  • On the current roster, Brandon has the highest avg per carry: 4.9. (LeGarrette Blount was higher 5.0, no longer on the team)
  • Great hands. In limited time he combined for more catches than Ridley and Blount combined. 21 to 12

All that being said, he can't seem to earn more playing time. But why? We've already determined its not based on skill or potential. It must be a fumbling problem, knowledge of the plays or pass protection. If he can get better at some of his intangibles, I do believe we'll see more of him this year. I'll be rooting for him, how about you?
