Rob Gronkowski looks to play in opener

The New England Patriots open the season on September 7th at the Miami Dolphins. Rob Gronkowski plans on being in uniform for that game and every game that comes after that.

Gronkowski tore his right ACL on Dec 8 on a low hit by Cleveland Browns safety T.J. Ward. Meaning that he will be a day shy of 10 months from the date of the injury to the first game of the season. That's right in the 9-12 month recovery window. We've seen players like Wes Welker and Adrian Peterson, come back in that time frame and have successful seasons.

Gronkowski tells Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston that he is "antsy" to get back onto the field. "I just want to play football. I love playing the game."

Rob Gronkowski playing all 16 games would be huge for this offense. In the seven games he played in last year there was a noticeable difference in the offense. What would be more important though is if he can be healthy during the playoffs. Each of the last three playoff losses Gronk has either been unable to play or playing at less than a 100%. If you have a healthy Gronk in those games the outcomes could very well be different.
