Arby's trolls Bill Belichick

We all remember what happened just before Bill Belichick took over as Head Coach of the New England Patriots and within two years we are started stating “In Bill We Trust," he resigned as “HC of the NYJ.” An Arby’s in Richmond, Virginia, down the street from where the Patriots have traveled to have joint practices with the Washington Redskins, has decided to “invite” Coach Belichick to dine with them, even offering reserve parking. The reserve parking sign is at best tongue in cheek, at worst it's downright insulting. As you can see from the picture at the top Arby’s has gone so far as to create a parking lot sign citing Belichick’s napkin resignation and with the binoculars Spygate. Jealous much?

Washington D.C. is starved for a title. The Wizards haven’t won since they were the Bullets. The Nationals haven’t won even when they were the Expos. The Capitals have never won the Stanley Cup. And the while Redskins do have three Super Bowl titles the last one they won was in 1991.

This drought has apparently left the folks at Arby’s bored enough to not only think of this plan, but execute it. Life must be grand in Richmond, Virginia. I don’t mind subtle jabbing and jesting in good fun, but to go to the lengths to create a sign? Its obviously a ploy to get attention, and as such they have gotten attention, but if the goal was to increase business from visiting Patriots fans, that certainly isn’t going to happen. I don’t even know that it will attract Redskins fans. The practices have been packed with fans of both teams. The Redskins were so excited to have the Patriots come to town they packed their team store with Tom Brady and Darrelle Revis merchandise and made a commemorative shirt to mark the occasion.

Were I Redskins fan I would be focused on their new coach Jay Gruden and his should be explosive offense. Robert Griffin III is a world class athlete who has legitimate weapons in running backs Alfred Morris, Roy Helu and wide receivers Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson, plus young up and coming tight end Jordan Reed. That’s a lot of exciting offensive potential. I’m excited to see them on RedZone.

The Redskins as an organization have taken this Patriots visit as a chance to learn from a Patriots team that has been entrenched as a perennial playoff team for over a decade. RGIII even going out of his way to reach out to Brady. Arby’s got this one dead wrong and aside from some pictures on websites I don’t see how they come off as anything but petty and jealous.
