Jerel Worthy, Jeremy Gallon pass physicals; Jerod Mayo back at practice

Jerel Worthy, who the Patriots acquired from the Green Bay Packers last week, passed his physical and is on the practice field in full pads today. Jeremy Gallon, an undersized receiver who the team selected in the 7th round out of Michigan, also passed his physical and will be appearing his first practice today, per Mike Reiss.

Worthy, who the Packers selected in the second round of the 2012 draft, never lived up to expectations in Green Bay and spent the majority of his time there injured. The move to trade for him is indicative of what the team now perceives as a position that lacks depth after Chris Jones and Sealver Siliga have sustained injuries.

Gallon has been held out of practice to this point with an undisclosed injury and will have an uphill battle to fight in order to make the team. With Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Aaron Dobson, Brandon LaFell, and (probably) Kenbrell Thompkins looking like roster-locks, Gallon has competition at the fringe-receiver spot with Josh Boyce and Brian Tyms.

The best news to come out of practice today however is that Jerod Mayo is back and in full pads. He missed three practices last week and Friday's preseason game. Mayo is a crucial leader for the defense and his absence was certainly a concern last week. He, along with Hoo-man and Bryan Stork, are out there today.
