Julian Edelman is still Tom Brady's favorite receiver

In recent years, quarterback Tom Brady has gotten some criticism for zeroing in on certain receivers.

The QB once known for spreading the ball around started to get away from that a bit when he had weapons like Randy Moss and Wes Welker at his disposal. Welker in particular tallied over 100 catches in nearly every season he was with the Patriots and at times it seemed like Brady did not trust anyone else.

With Welker gone last year, Brady found a new favorite receiver. Ironically, the receiver who drew comparisons to Welker most of his career - Julian Edelman.

Edelman also topped 100 catches last season, and if you're the gambling type, be sure to bet on him passing that again this year before you put in your super bowl prop bets.

In practice, Brady has been honing in on Julian once again.

It's not surprising since, of all the receivers, Edelman has the most experience in the Patriots system out of all of them. Drafted back in 2009, Welker has a considerable head start over the other receivers, who all either only arrived last season or this year.

Of course, focusing so much on one receiver makes an offense easy to defend, and it's a trap that Brady needs to get away from. There were several times last season that Brady would pass up an open Danny Amendola in favor of a covered Julian Edelman. That's a clear indication he's deciding who to throw to before the ball is even snapped.

Edelman, of course, was able to deliver with the new found attention from last season, but he has had injury issues in the past. Too much attention could mean more hits, and the team can ill afford to lose their best receiver.
