Mayo unsure if he'll play against the Panthers

According to a report by the Providence Journal, linebacker Jerod Mayo's status is unclear for Friday's preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, despite saying he feels good.

“[I] feel good,” Mayo said on Tuesday before practice. “Went out there yesterday, ran around a little bit. Feeling good.”

It is unclear what exactly kept Mayo out of practice and just how back to normal, so to speak, he feels as he didn't comment on that. And the fact that he may not play on Friday means he isn't quite 100% yet, and as he points out, it's a step by step thing for him and the team.

“Obviously it’ll be a step by step thing,” Mayo said. “It’s kind of like riding a bike, so I think once I get a couple plays under my belt I’ll feel good.”

How long Mayo will be out is a mystery, but given his progress, I think it seems reasonable to expect him back for the beginning of the season.
