Weird Al playing the Super Bowl halftime show, could it happen?

The Super Bowl halftime show is a coveted gig around the music world. Those 15 minutes are hard to beat in terms of exposure and money for an artist.

The NFL wants to make sure its an enjoyable experience for its fans. So they aim to get some of the more popular musical acts to ensure that as many people will enjoy the show.

So who will that musical act be this year? Weird Al Yankovic seems to be the logical choice, right? Now before you commit me to a mental institution let me just tell you that I'm not the only one that wants to see this. As right now there is a petition going around with over 65,000 signatures trying to convince the NFL to get Weird Al to do this years half time show.

Here's how the petition reads.

For decades Weird Al has entertained fans, young and old, with his popular clever parodies and unique sense of humor. Having him headline the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show. would not only be overly accepted by the millions of views, but it would remain true to the standards and quality of the show business we have come to love and respect out of this prestigious event. The songs of artists that he is parodying could join him on stage to accompany, as well as other surprise appearances from well-known actors/actresses, adding more prestige and star power. The theatrics alone would be hilarious and a welcoming change, and draw a wider audience of fans that typically would not tune into the championship game or half-time show.

If that doesn't make you hurry to the computer and go over to Change.org while whistling the national anthem that I don't know what will.

Weird Al's album "Mandatory Fun" did just hit #1 on the Billboard top 200 for the first time in his 30 plus year career. It was also the first comedy album to be number one since 1963 and best sales week for a comedy album since 1994. So he can be considered at the peak of his career and judging by the numbers a very popular artist. Seems to fit what the NFL is looking for.

Sure this its a long shot and most petitions are usually worthless. But this is America. And as Americans we love the underdog story and this could be the biggest one of them all. So if you want to enjoy a little Weird Al in between two halves of the New England Patriots beating up whoever their opponent in route to ring #4. Then make sure to go sign the petition and do America a favor.
