With Sam Bradford out, What's next for the Ram's?

Jeff Fisher and the St. Louis Rams received the unfortunate news yesterday that the 2010 first overall pick, quarterback Sam Bradford has torn his left ACL for the second time in as many seasons.

Bradford, who spent the offseason recovering from an ACL tear that he suffered back in October, was finally back to feeling comfortable and fully mobile on that repaired knee when his season came to an abrupt end after a hit from Brown's end Amonty Bryant caused him to fall awkwardly on his newly repaired knee. Fisher and the Ram's staff were hopeful it was just a hyper-extension of the knee, but soon got the daunting news that their starting quarterback was gone for the season, before it even starts.

St. Louis boast one of the top front sevens in the NFL with big names like Robert Quinn, Chris Long and James Laurinaitis. The Ram's also have an offense that has shown improvement over the past few years with rising stars Tavon Austin and Zach Stacey, and the addition of Kenny Britt this offseason proves Fisher had the intention to at least compete with the big dogs in the division up in San Francisco and Seattle. Shaun Hill is the next man up in St. Louis, and Fisher says he's their guy, but with the season still in start-up mode, a team like the Patriots with extra luggage at the Quarterback position may be looking to make a deal.

The backup QB game is always a risky one to play, as most of those guys have little to no in game NFL experience. This doesn't mean the Ram's shouldn't at least make some calls to teams around the league because after all, Shaun Hill is a 34 year old career backup who when given a starting job in Detroit, didn't fair so well.

There are plenty of good backups out there, and a guy like Kirk Cousins who doesn't quite fit into Washington's west coast offense could be an ideal fit if the Ram's choose to look elsewhere for Bradford's replacement. Mark Sanchez is an experienced QB currently riding the pine in Philly,

but he doesn't have the best history as a starter and I don't see enough potential there to part ways with a draft pick.

Michael Vick's a proven veteran who would be an intriguing name for the Ram's to bring in, but the question there is weather or not Rex Ryan wants to part way with Vick, who could potentially be the best QB on the Jets right now. Another in that may be worthy of looking into is the Patriots Ryan Mallett.

With the addition of Jimmy Garoppolo in this April's draft, trade rumors have swirled all summer around Patriot's third year QB Ryan Mallett, who was a promising talent out of Arkansas who fell to the Patriots in the third round because of off the field behavior issues. With three years under his belt in the complex New England system, and no off field incidents to date, this could be the right opportunity for Belichick to get something in return for Mallett who will most likely be gone when his contract runs up after this season.

The real question is whether or not the Ram's, who have been trying to build their team through the draft would be willing to part ways with one of their coveted draft picks in attempt to salvage this season, especially when they play in what very well may be the best division in football.
