Chandler Jones draws praise

It takes time to decide whether or not someone is a draft bust or a solid choice but it seems pretty clear that the Patriots got value when they moved up to draft Chandler Jones in the first round.

In his first three games in 2014 Jones already has accumulated 11 tackles, 2 sacks, and blocked a field goal that lead to 6 points by the offense. One of the reasons why Jones is so successful is because of his impressive 35.5 inch wingspan. When asked about the impressive defense end Brady said:

Usually they put the guys on defense because they can't catch the ball. They weren't good enough to play offense.. They didn't have enough ball skills to catch it. But you're right. He's got phenomenal length, and he's so quick and gangly. He always seems to be making plays. We could probably use that on offense -- those long arms to catch the ball and stuff like that.

Jones played tight end in high school but converted to defensive end at Syracuse. His draft stock fell because he only played seven games his last year for the Orange due to a knee injury.

In the 2012 draft the Patriots traded their No. 27 pick and a third-round pick (No. 93 overall) to Cincinnati for the 21st pick to get Jones. The Bengals used those picks to select Kevin Zeitler, G and Brandon Thompson, DT. Both Zeitler and Thompson still play for Cincinnati.
