Patriots banged up or injured? Darrelle Revis, Rob Ninkovich and Sebastian Vollmer

Sebastian Vollmer avoided a major injury (Jim Davis - Boston Globe)
During Sunday's egregious loss to the Miami Dolphins, several players had issues in regards to their health. Darrelle Revis experienced cramps, missing the last two defensive drives. Sebastian Vollmer was taken out for a drive after being slow to get up. The most severe may have been Rob Ninkovich though, where the defensive end played less than half of the snaps after appearing to injure his shoulder. But are these injuries a concern?

For Darrelle Revis, the corner had an average day at best, but that may have been attributed to him having dehydration and cramping issues which caused him to sit out the last two defensive drives of the game. After the game he was quoted as saying to CBS Boston
“I’m fine. Some minor stuff going on, but I’m fine,” Revis said. “Minor things going on.”

Stuck on the sideline while the Patriots badly needed a play was not how Revis envisioned his day would go.

“Very frustrating that I couldn’t be out there and help the team out and help us in desperation mode at that time,” he said.

Hopefully he is right in saying this is only a minor issue, and that he will be good to go going forward. Revis gave up several receptions to Mike Wallace and Co. but did have several pass break ups in what can be described as an average game for the superstar.

For Sebastian Vollmer, the Patriots dodged a bullet. After breaking his ankle last year, which resulted him missing the last half of the year, he appeared to have injured his lower body at one point in the game. After the play he was slow to get up, but was able to walk to the sidelines without assistance. Once he got to the bench he was left unattended by the training staff, so it would seem that he was just shaken up and nothing serious took place. That's not to say Vollmer is fine, it very well could have been undetectable at that point in time, and an MRI and full examination could show more, but overall I would not be too concerned at this point in time. If he had been injured, the Patriots OL would have been in shambles, which would have made the game even uglier than it was.

The potentially most serious injury could have been one most people missed. Following a long run after the catch by Charles Clay, Rob Ninkovich tried an arm swing tackle. After he got up, he began to rotate his arm while holding his shoulder area, wincing as he did. Without knowing the severity of the "injury" we can only speculate that was the cause of his absence for the majority of the game. Hopefully it is not a serious issue due to the struggle of the run defense and the lack of depth on the edge for DE and OLB. While it may have been part of the game plan, Ninkovich was taken out in the nickel package in favor of others. Time will tell if he was actually injured, or just kept off the field for personnel reasons.

Overall, the Patriots stayed healthy, not sustaining any serious injuries. This was fortunate given the massive amounts of injuries other teams suffered this weekend. The game was ugly, they played the worst half of Patriots football that I've ever seen, but if there are some silver linings, one of them is that they are still healthy coming out of that loss.
