Pump the brakes on the Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are in sole possession of first place in the AFC East.

The only reason that is even a headline is because everyone is so used to the Patriots having a chokehold on that title from Week 1 till the end of the season. We are two weeks into the NFL season and this is the Bills we are talking about. They squeaked by an inconsistent Bears team, and beat an average Miami team, who if not for catching the Patriots on a bad day, would be 0-2.

We've seen Buffalo start hot before, only to fall to the basement of the AFC East.

I'm a Patriots fan, so I'm biased sometimes, but even the unbiased fan in me knows the Patriots will be considered the class of the division for quite a while. A 2-0 start from a Buffalo Bills team that's done nothing, means nothing. It shouldn't even be talked about, but Buffalo has been pedestrian for so long, so seeing them start 2-0 is like seeing a UFO. Combine that with the fact that the Patriots had one of their worst games in years against Miami and aren't in first place, and you have a headline.

Let's relax here. Could Buffalo keep performing and make for a fun competition towards the end of the season? Of course, it's sports...anything can happen, but come on now. We're heading into Week 3, any talk about Buffalo being for real shouldn't come till Week 8 or 9.

The Patriots have earned their right to be considered the class of the AFC East at the beginning of the season (even after a loss or two) and their body of work since 2001 backs that up. Two wins for Buffalo against so-so teams doesn't warrant any mention of them being for real, so that needs to stop. Buffalo has to prove a lot more against heavier competition before it can even be mentioned again.

For now, we just have to watch and see what happens.
