Second sponsor pulls out, Nike drops Adrian Peterson
We've begun to get strong statement from NFL sponsors.
No one is going to see much of a significant change in the NFL without it effecting people's wallets. That process began yesterday and has continued today.
Radisson hotels suspended its sponsorship of the Vikings yesterday after they reinstated runningback Adrian Peterson, who has been indicted on charges of child abuse. The team corrected that mistake this morning by banning Peterson from the team.
Additionally, Anheuser-Busch and Papa Johns - two of the league's biggest sponsors - issued strong statements condemdning the NFL's recent actions (or rather inactions) and Nike pulled Adrian Peterson gear from their stores.
Nike took things a bit further today, suspending their endorsement with Adrian Peterson.
The NFL has come under fire lately after two high profile players - Adrian Peterson and Baltimore's Ray Rice - have been involved in graphically disturbing domestic violence cases.
In Ray Rice's case, there was a now infamous video of the Super Bowl champion punching his wife out cold in an elevator.
With Peterson, photos were revealed of the lacerations he caused to his son while whipping him with a "switch". The boy was also described to be bleeding from his legs and scrotum and told police he was afraid to tell anyone of his father's action or else he may be beaten again by his father. Peterson admitted to the acts.
