3 reasons why Revis should shadow AJ Green

We all know Belichick is moving his focus on to Cincinnati, but I have to ask if that means you are going to reopen Revis Island? Here are three reasons why it makes sense for Revis to shadow Bengals wide receiver, AJ Green.


1.) Browner is back

After serving his 4-game suspension, Brandon Browner is eligible to see the field again. His timing couldn't be any better. Browner brings some physicality that is so desperately needed in the Patriots secondary. His presence will allow Belichick to cut Revis loose on AJ Green.

2.) Play to the strength of Revis

In the past, we have all seen Revis make superstar wide receivers vanish without a trace. He can only do this if he is playing in a man to man scheme. No time like the present to let your prized free agent showcase his talents. We never told Randy Moss to play in the slot and run short yardage routes. No sir, we said stretch the defense and go deep. It is time for Revis to play straight old school bump and run coverage against a talented receiver.

3.) AJ Green is Dalton's crutch

Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton has the luxury that Tom Brady does not and that is a tall receiver that is a deep threat. No disrespect to the ability of Andy Dalton, but AJ Green makes Dalton look really good. Just like Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson, Dalton can just toss up a jump ball and feel confident that Green will come down with it. Jump balls are tough to defend for any defensive back. However, Green does not do well with press coverage and being bumped out of his route. All I am saying is kick the crutch from underneath Dalton and he will make forced and poor decisions which can only help the Patriots.


Don't get me wrong, I think Green will still get his catches. However, I will chalk it up as a success to Revis if he holds him to 70 or 80 yards. The only way to make this happen though is if the Pats secondary can play press coverage. If we see zone schemes again, AJ Green and Andy Dalton will tear the Patriots a new one.

We all know Rex Ryan used Revis in man schemes. C'mon Belichick, the Patriots fans are begging you to let Revis do his thing against the Bengals!
