Aaron Dobson benched for "mouthing off" to McDaniels

Patriots wide receiver Aaron Dobson has been inactive for three of the teams first four games. Including being a healthy scratch for the last two. Now it sounds like we might have the answer as to why.

Its not clear what Dobson said to earn what is essentially a two game suspension, but it must have been good.

Dobson and McDaniels need to be able to work past this, especially now that this news is out there. Its a fine line that they have to walk between disciplining Dobson for being out of line and just being petty and hurting the team as a whole.

Coming into the season Dobson was battling Brandon Lafell and Kenbrell Thompkins for the X receiver spot. Thompkins has taken his turn being inactive a couple of times and Lafell has started to show some promise over the last couple of games in that X position.

Meanwhile Dobson has only one catch for 13 yards this season. His mouthing off to a coach has severely hurt his chance to win the battle with Lafell and he will have an uphill battle to get back on the field.

The Patriots need his speed on the outside to help stretch defenses. While he has been ineffective so far this year I'm slow to lay the blame completely on him. Right now it seems to be a team effort of sucking. But this is quickly becoming a make or break year for Dobson. If the Patriots plan to keep Brady around for the rest of his career they won't have a choice but to surround him with top level talent at the wide receiver position. Its becoming obvious that Brady isn't at the point where he can elevate the receivers as much as he did earlier in his career. So if Dobson doesn't show this year that he can get open down the field and help Brady out, then that Patriots will have to move on from the 2013 second round pick.

So Aaron Dobson better start making his play on the field do the talking instead of his mouth.
