Belichick and Revis have a surprise for the Jets

Tonight's game marks the first clash of the season between two heated divisional rivals that always has something special in store, but it's importance is particularly significant for Patriots corner Darrelle Revis. Tonight he goes up against the team that drafted him, the team that turned him into a star, and the team that spat him out like old milk. Needless to say Revis will be fired up when the Jets head up to Foxborough, but apparently he and coach Belichick have planned a little something extra to irk the Jets.

Rumours have spread like wildfire in anticipation of what this alleged surprise might be, with many suspecting that the Patriots will try to give Revis the opportunity to score a TD in a close red-zone situation:

I can't imagine Bill Belichick would allow this sort of thing to happen, particularly after he was chewed out by the media when Gronkowski injured his arm protecting punts (a role for which he was designated anyway). So let's explore some of the other possibilities:

This would make much more sense, as it is a role that will need to be filled anyway. Dont'a Hightower is the right man for this job I believe, but in this game, irking the Jets actually seems to be pretty high on the priority list, and this is a safe and modest way to do it.

Our own Michael Sullivan hypothesised that Revis may be allowed to drop-kick an extra point. An exciting proposition, though if this were going to happen you can bet that Belichick would be wishing he hadn't protested so heavily in favour of more difficult PAT's. Another of our writers in-house, William Stiles, suggested that Revis may be allowed to take a pitch as a running back in a kneel-down formation, which would rub just enough salt in the wounds without causing any risk of injury or to the result of the game. Some interesting theories.

Well that is just plain silly... or is it?
