Danny Amendola had off season surgery

When the Patriots signed Danny Amendola, I think most of us were hoping he would be Wes Welker's replacement. Certainly, most Pats fans expected more than 54 catches and 633 yards last year and 3 catches for 16 yards so far this year. But, at least we have a possible explanation now as to why he's been virtually non-existent so far this year. Amendola had off-season surgery, according to Pro Football Talk. He doesn't want to use it as an excuse, but it certainly could be a factor in why he hasn't performed so far.

“It really doesn’t matter anymore, whether I did, or didn’t. I’m not going to make excuses. I don’t want anything to seem like it’s an excuse,” Amendola said, via the Boston Herald. “I’m over it. I don’t feel the need to talk about it. It’s in the past. I feel great right now. I’m trying to get open on every play. It’s not slowing me down. I feel great today. That’s what I’m grateful for and thankful for. I’m just trying to prepare for this week.”“It really doesn’t matter anymore, whether I did, or didn’t. I’m not going to make excuses. Surgery or not, Danny Amendola hasn't lived up to expectations and, while surgery may explain his troubles this year, he still hasn't been the guy we thought we signed last season after Wes Welker left.
